SANs have become a point of much discussion and debate over the last few years. Much has been said, but little is known.SANs connect devices through a network of switches, hubs, routers, and servers to facilitate the transmission of raw blocks of data. From these criteria, SANs can promise compelling advantages: storage consolidation, centralized management, improved data access, flexibility for growth, security, data movement overhead taken off the server, and backup.
