摘 要:
This guide includes detail instructions to perform an Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) restore and recover of the database from backup tapes using CommVault Galaxy software. The creation of instance, subclient and backup schedules are outlined in a separate document namely the “2nd Level RMAN CommVault Backups User Guide”.
Galaxy provides two general operations that help you retrieve backed up data: browse and restore. Browse operations allow you to view the data that has been backed up. Restore operations retrieve the data from the backup media and restore it to the desired location. While browse and restore operations often go hand in hand, a restore can be performed on demand, without using the browse option. You can perform these operations from the instance level.
Restore Operation section includes detail instructions to perform an Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) restore and recover of the database. The Browse and restore section covers a different method to restore the database. Either method can be used.
Knowledge of Oracle RMAN concept is required to perform the restore and recover operation; however, if 2nd level operation is to perform this task, then 3rd level support DBA has to be consulted prior to the restore operation. The 3rd level DBA needs to define the type of restore required, from which backup, set the database mode etc., then 2nd level support will use the information from 3rd level support DBA to populate the Galaxy screen and to the restore the database. Use the form on Appendix D to log all the required information from the DBA prior to the restore.
There are two copies of the backup tapes. The primary tape is kept in the library for 21 days. The Secondary copy is sent off-site for 7 days and only will be required in case of a disaster. Except for disaster, all backup data will be available for restore at any time without waiting to be pickup from offsite location.
