摘 要:
Once upon a time, network administrators were spot-on in solving storage problems. Too much data for the backup tape? Slap on an autoloader. Primary storage filling up the disk? Come in on the weekend and add an array. Tapes hard to manage? Use sticky labels and pay attention.
For better or worse those days are gone. Siloed storage gives way to networked storage, data centers, centralized management-and an urgent need to solve storage problems across enterprise environments. The storage industry is happy to oblige: there are dozens of major storage technologies, hundreds of storage vendors and thousands of point products, all screaming loudly for customer attention. This means that companies facing a storage issue will often pinpoint the problem, buy a point product, install it, and then pronounce the problem solved.
